JET FC Berlin Atomiade 12-15 June 2009
(a.k.a. JET FC)
Bob Brooks
Jon Wright - injured, team coach and
master tactician Lionel Poncet - tour virgin Robert Broughton - tour virgin Guest appearance by
Tony Betteridge the HRLA Administrator. Did anyone see Dave
Butler? Missed the tour again. The Culham football
team registered early on but did not make it to Berlin. Their team leader was
busy in Geneva. Evening meals were
at the Palais am Funkturm built in 1956/57, and was one of the best-looking
and most modern venues hosting events and guests in Germany. Featuring an
unusual room layout and the charm of the Fifties, this listed building, the
"Palais am Funkturm", is a unique venue for balls, banquets and receptions,
congress events and lectures. The nearby radio
tower was built between 1924 and 1926. Most sports were
played at the Sportforum
Hohenschnhausen This complex
includes the Dynamo-Station im Sportforum the home of Berliner FC Dynamo. Built in 1970, it
has a capacity of 10,000 spectators (~2,000 seats). The stadium was renovated
in 2005-06 to include fences and player tunnels required to meet security
standards. The fall of the Berlin wall has left the stadium in the wrong part
of the city and in need of renovation. Appsy had some wild fantasy about
Aston Villa once playing on this very pitch. The Football
Results The actual scores are a bit
vague because no one remembers exactly. Saturday Group A
We failed to score any goals!
Dave Cookson and Nigel King
scored two each. Chris Hoy scored a penalty. Final Places
P>JET FC finished 11th out of 13. Fair Play Award JET finally won something after 21 attempts! To the
amazement of everyone, Bobby Brooks stepped on the stage and received the
Fair Play Award for the Atomiade. There were 34 institutes assembled, some
with a far larger and better behaved contingent than our 14 footballers, but
we took the trophy. The JET Player of the Tour Could only be Lionel. Post Tour Quotes Jon Wright: Sorry - I can't remember. I think I binned all the files,
tactics and match reports on the clip board, as they weren't too successful! Dave Cookson: Me and Nige both got 2 goals and Hoy got 1 as he demanded
to take a penalty. Tom Turner: 2nd day, mostly I remember being exhausted. Our last game of the day
was a high scoring one, 3-3 or 4-3 I think, and I remember not being bothered
to run back and trying to defend. Geoff Broughton: Did we really drink 120 euros of beer? Helge-Rolf Kiesewetter
(Kiesewetter): When I heard at our meeting
on Sunday afternoon about the difficulties of the Atomiade expenses and the
huge missing sum of 15.000 euros which was caused by bus transfers only, I
couldn't sleep very peacefully. Contact me Geoff.Broughton@hotmail.co.uk |
